Even though DRM seems to be on the way out in music we now see every new attempt to impose DRM on books. You see, publishers would like to deny readers traditional freedoms: lend a book to your friend, sell it to a used bookstore, borrow it from a public library, buy it anonymously by paying cash and even the freedom to keep the book for as long as you wish reading it as many times as you wish and then pass it on to your heirs. It would be hard to pass laws taking away these freedoms from the readers of books.
There are too many readers of books and even with our sick forms of democracy we could still resist.”
